My Silhouette

I've been a child of the city, born and raised on the streets,
I've seen the face of addiction, growing up through the years.
I hear the voices of anger 'bout injustice they've seen,
Inner city's in ruins, it's been falling on me.
Heard the cries of the widow, with another good life laid to rest.

Don't know what I'll be hoping to find
Behind my silhouette.

Better watch what you're saying, 'case somebody can hear,
We got the bills growing higher, we got the rent in arrears,
Ain't no money for saving, and the future is already spent.

Don't know what I'll be hoping to find
Behind my silhouette.

There's some streetlights down by the eastside river,
Ain't no place to be walking alone
And the downtown traffic is slowly fading
In a city where no one belongs.
Cross the bridge into the dark side
Heart is beating now, but you know I gotta get home.

Don't know what I'll be hoping to find
Behind my silhouette.

There's a pride amongst the people though they live beyond their means,
And there's one too many suicides in this inner city dream.
No one questions their condition on the outside looking in,
Ain't a problem 'less you're living on the wrong side of that bridge.

I need something that I can believe in,
I need something I can hold on,
'Cause my dreams have been steadily dying,
And my faith needs a place to belong.
Ain't no time to raise that warning,
There'll be nobody leaving this train.

Don't know what I'll be hoping to find
Behind my silhouette.
Only hope I've got nothing to hide
Behind my silhouette.
